Work Experience

Group of students at HAC

Work experience placements with HAC are for young people aged 14-19 doing their placement as part of their school or college course. If you are a university student or you are looking to volunteer with us, please see our Student Placements page for more information.

Placements with us are ideal if you are interested in performing or visual arts, design or events management and arts administration.

Placements with us last for one week and include:

• An introductory tour of the venue
• Stewarding HAC events
• Taking part in workshops
• Marketing and administration
• Working on the HAC programme
• A day with Box Office
• A day with the Facilities team

We design a specific timetable for each placement which you will receive in advance, so you know what to expect and who you will be working with. Most placements include late evenings and/or weekend events, which we will discuss with you beforehand if we offer you a placement here to make sure it fits in with your other commitments.

How to apply
To apply for a placement with us, please send in your completed application form by the dates below. Please complete the form yourself; we only take applications from an adult on behalf of a student in exceptional circumstances. If you are short listed, you’ll be invited in for a short interview, after which we will contact you to let you know if we can offer you a placement.

Unfortunately, as we receive a lot of requests for work experience placements, we are not able to take on everyone who applies. If we can’t take you on placement this time, we’ll do our best to advise you on other places you could go and we’ll let you know about other opportunities to get involved at HAC.

Referrals and applications by adults
If you are an adult and wish to make a referral or apply on behalf of a student, please download the separate form. We will accept applications in this way if challenging circumstances prevent the young person applying themselves.

Application deadlines
The deadline has now passed for Autumn 2014. If you are still seeking a placement please email us to check availability for the dates you require.

For placements during the Spring term 2015, please apply by the 10th November 2014.

For placements during the Summer term 2015, please apply by 13th March 2015. Please be aware that Harrow Council is currently consulting on proposals to save £75 million over the next 4 years, which include a proposal to close or move HAC. This may affect our ability to offer placements during the summer term; updates on our placements will be posted here. You can see details of the consultations on the Harrow Council website
