Every ancient building has a thousand tales to tell. Let Alexandra Veres take you on a pictorial tour of Harrow and its surroundings, and share with you her story of its secrets. Through oil, pastel and pencil, she has been mapping some of the beautiful sites of the borough since 2014, painting them both on the spot and from photos. Her prior knowledge of their history has enriched the painting experience, and her solo show at Headstone has in turn prompted her to delve even deeper into their past. From fields and streams to castle homes, from cottages to kings, stories emerge of intrigue and betrayal, of speculation, prosperity and ruin. And poets, painters and potentates weave their way through the narrative, bringing the bricks and stones to life.
About the Speaker:
My name is Alexandra Veres. I am a self-taught artist with an academic background, being a linguist and graduate in English Literature from Cambridge University. Although I have had a lifelong passion for the practice and study of art, it was a chance watercolour course in 2009 which really opened the floodgates, radically changing my life and transforming me into the fully-fledged artist I am today. I run a local outdoor painting programme as well as life drawing classes, I belong to various art societies, including one at the Mall Galleries, I have artist's residencies in Harrow and Belgravia, and I now spend most of my day sketching and painting.
