Sangeet College has been teaching in West London for over 30 years and you will learn from an experienced teacher who is also a skilled performer. Students have the option to take recognised examinations as their skills and knowledge develop.
Beginner: Correct holding position. Focus on finger placement on the Sitar and how to wear the Mizrab (plectrum) correctly. Sargam lessons focusing on exercises for the right and left hands. How to produce sounds in different pitches. Simple compositions will be taught. Performance is very much encouraged with public performances of material learned.
Intermediate: Continued development of skills, dexterity, fluency, variety and improvisation. Students will learn theory, notation, tuning and playing with accompaniment. Students will also have the opportunity to perform in public.
Advanced: deepening your understanding of ragas and performance skills. Technique, composition and improvisation will be developed.
