You will be taught to be competent in the various tabla playing styles and develop the skills needed to accompany and improvise. You will have opportunities to develop your confidence to play with other musicians and dancers. Importantly you will be part of a small group and learn to play the Tabla in a friendly and supportive environment. (One to One and Online classes available)
People of all ages and backgrounds welcome. No prior knowledge of Indian music required.
Tabla is one of the most popular percussion instruments in the world. It is played with the hands and produces a wide range of musical sounds which are arranged into distinct rhythmic pieces You will be taught the techniques which have been handed down by Pt Sharda Sahai who was the head of the Benares school of tabla playing and founded PRSSV in the UK in 1989, to promote Indian classical music in the UK.
Course Details:
Beginner: taking you from the very beginning of learning Tabla to being able to give a short performance.
Intermediate: developing your playing skills while deepening your understanding of taal, simple improvisation, accompanying instruments/singing as well as how to develop a performance.
Advance: helping you to develop your repertoire, improvising skills, accompanying dance, plus with opportunities to perform to supportive audiences.
Exams: Students are trained to sit the OCN accredited qualifications of the PRSSV Global Performing Arts Qualifications Exam Board which are recognised worldwide.
Performances: Students are given opportunity to perform at PARAMPARA and regular In-Focus and Baithak events as performing is vital to their development as a musician.
PRSSV Sangeet College has been teaching in West London for over 30 years; our teacher is a professional Tabla player who
performs with the leading Indian vocalists and instrumentalists. He also performs with musicians and dancers from Western and other musical traditions. In our courses you will learn the basics of the instrument and of North Indian music as well as being exposed to some of the spiritual and cultural aspects of this music, its performance and study. You will also work with other musical genres including current popular and film music.
