A Day to Remember: Community Takeover Day
Sunday 11 November 2018 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Harrow Arts Centre
FREE (no booking necessary)
Marking 100 years to the day since the end of the ‘war to end all wars’, Harrow Arts Centre’s Lest We Forget Season culminates in a day of remembrance at the centre featuring an array of FREE family activities including creative heritage activities, performances and workshops!
Immerse and educate the entire family as you experience an array of themed activities including the creation of a spectacular poppy War Memorial together with professional artist Becci Kenning honouring the names of soldiers from Harrow who lost their lives in the Great War. You can meet infantry soldier Private Parsons in his recreation of a Western Front trench and find out more about the impact of the war on Harrow from staff at Headstone Manor and Museum.
There will also be a range of free themed workshops running throughout the afternoon. Join professional Mime artist Richard Jones in a special Charlie Chaplin themed Mime Workshop or take part in our Make an Aeroplane Workshop with craft expert Joni Rae Carrack. If singing and dancing is more your thing then make sure to check out the World War One Sing along Workshop, exploring the musical heritage of the Great War or join The London Swing Dance Society for their 1918 Dance Workshop featuring styles such as The Foxtrot, Ragtime and many more.
If that’s not enough, we have a packed programme of community dance, theatre, music and poetry on our Community Performance Platform in the Elliott Hall taking place throughout the day!
Highlights from the programme include a performance from the fabulous Edgware based Flash Musicals, short plays from Harrow Arts Centre’s very own Harrow Youth Theatre, and a moving intergenerational performance by local primary school students and residents of Kent House care home!
The show will conclude with a closing ceremony of remembrance with The Last Post performed by local trumpeter Ucheena Cohen-Shah!

All activities at our Community Takeover Day are completely FREE and you are invited to take part in as much or as little as you wish. Please join us in commemorating our local heritage and pay tribute to those who lost their lives. We will remember them.
