Harrow Arts Centre are excited to promote this concert on behalf of 'House of Rumi Ltd', who have hired our venue for this special occasion.
Join us in an intimate theatre setting, for an evening of Qawwali - as RAAG Qawwali Group perform traditional soulful Qawwali - the beautiful poetry of Molana Rumi, the language of the Sufi mystics - encompassing hypnotic rhythms, melodies, mystical verses, and enchanting rhythms.
The Turkish were the first to use the word Qawwal, referring to the dervishes who performed the whirling chants of the Sufi saint, Jalaluddin Rumi. Thereafter, as the word travelled to India, followed by its Urdu adaptation the term 'Qawwal' was coined for people who sang Qawwali.
The songs which constitute the Qawwali repertoire are primarily in Persian, Hindi and Urdu.
The band are the 8th generation of Classical musicians and Qawwals in their lineage - they are the grandsons of the legend Ustad Latafat Hussain. The band will also be performing more modern music in the second half of the show - from your favourite OST’s, and Ghazals.
