Inspired by the period of allotted exercise and daily walks Tom took during lockdown, the work is a misfit monument made of scrap material and building supplies. Built on a set of wheels, the work aims to represent a sense of displacement in confusing times, but also to add joy and optimism through rebuilding!
To have your chance to see this wonderful spectacle, please check back here in early 2021 for the walking route that will begin at Harrow Arts Centre and end in Harrow town centre. If you can’t see the sculpture in person, a short video and photographs of the walk will be made available on this webpage after the event has taken place.
About the Artist:
Tom Coates practise focuses on the intersection between sculpture and live art. They use household and building materials to create unruly, colourful forms and often presents them through a performance or intervention. Whilst the work is inspired by themes of gender expression, conformity, and metamorphosis, it remains open to interpretation.
