In their very first tour of the UK, renowned Indian classical vocalists Shilpa Puntambekar and Savani Datar-Kulkarni are proud to present Virasat - the rich heritage that they have been a part of and have been taking efforts to pass on to the next generation. Together they will be presenting a mesmerising concert of Indian classical (Khyal, Tarana), Semiclassical (Thumri, Tappa, Chaiti , Kajri, Hori, Dadra, Ghazal) and light music. The versatility of their voices is bound to hypnotise the audience. During this concert, you will be taken on a journey through the timeline of Indian classical music, ranging from traditional to contemporary styles which will appeal to all. Both regularly perform in various prestigious music festivals throughout India.
Virasat is a specially curated concert aiming to keep the legacy of Devgandharva Pandit Bhaskarbuwa Bakhale alive through his great granddaughters Shilpa and Savani.
Devgandharv Pandit Bhaskarbuva Bakhale (1869 – 1922) is the most respected personality in the history of Indian Classical Music. Having received training from Faiz Mohammed Khan (Gwalior), Natthan Khan (Agra) and Alladiya Khan (the founder of Jaipur-Atrauli gharana), some of his notable disciples include Bal Gandharva, Master Krishnarao Phulambrikar.
They will be accompanied by Sameer Puntambekar on Tabla and Kiran Deshpande on Harmonium. The concert will be anchored by Ani Kaprekar.
Sameer Puntambekar is disciple of Late Pt. G.L Samant and Pt. Suresh Samant. He has accompanied many renowned artists like Devki Pandit, Pt. Rajan and Pt. Sajan Mishra, Shaila Datar, Pandita Rohini Bhate, Pt. Anand Bhate to name a few.
Kiran Deshpande learnt music from the age 9 and plays a variety of musical instruments including Flute, Mandolin, Harmonium and Piano. Alumni of Warana Bal Vadya Vrunda, he is currently receiving further training from Pt. Shounak Abhisheki.
