Our Precious Sacred Wood

A contemporary exhibition by two Artists, with widely different practices, but inspired by a mutual love of trees, and our veneration of them.

Trees have always had a profound effect on the European psyche. These temporal Woodlands, have and always will have a profound influence all creators, writers/poets, musicians but perhaps especially Visual artist.

Jonathan Hutchins is fascinated by the sacred, mythological, theological and spiritual art inspired by trees, such as ‘The Dream of the Rood’ and he explores it in a Series of artworks on that theme.

Stuart Smith is similarly Inspired creatively by trees but makes works actually in the woodlands Of the Chilterns. Using the actual materials of the wood, the Earth the branches, charcoal, to make abstract expressionist Artworks.
