Harrow Young Artist Commission Call Out
Harrow Arts Centre is a community driven facility which seeks to enhance the lives of all who live in Harrow through the transformative power of arts and culture. In this unprecedented time when many are struggling, we want to support both our communities and the artists we work with, many of whom have had their livelihoods snatched from them. Young people have also been hard hit by the crisis, with their education, developing careers and social lives abruptly halted.
Through our in-house participation programme, HAC has always sought to champion the creativity of young people and give them opportunities to develop to their fullest potential. In a time when we all need a little inspiration, we believe that no one has more power to uplift our communities than young artists.
Given Harrow’s rich and diverse community, we aspire to do more to champion a wide variety of artistic visions and welcome young artists to apply from one or more of the following groups: Black, Asian or from a minority ethnic group, deaf, disabled, neurodivergent and LGBTQI+.
HAC is therefore thrilled to be offering a small number of commissions for young artists who live, work or study in Harrow aged 16-25 to create new pieces of work for our #HACfromhome strand during this lockdown period to inspire our audiences and communities. We are looking for:
- Uplifting, inspiring, inventive work which rises above the restrictive nature of lockdown
- Work which can be enjoyed online by our audiences in the safety of their own homes
- Work which is suitable for all ages
- Work no more than 1 hour in length.
Work could be in any medium. From short films to virtual exhibitions, theatrical or dance performances, if you are aged 16-25, pursuing a career in the creative industries and living, working or studying in Harrow, we want to hear from you!
The Application Process
The application window will open on Friday 31st July and close at midnight on Friday 28th August.
We are offering 5 commissions in total. We welcome applications from both individual artists and collectives. Individual commissions will receive a bursary of £150; group commissions a bursary of £250.
The 5 commissions will be selected by our Programming team.
